Hey!
Welcome to our blog on the differences between good and enjoyable movies! With this introductory post, we would like to give you insight into how this blog came into existence and its aim.
As part of our group project in our “Introduction to Media Analysis” class with Professor Vith, we decided to set up a blog. Our topic was inspired by Professor Vith’s questions on movies we had to watch for class, namely if we thought the movie was good and if we enjoyed it.
We centered our blog around these two questions and agreed on the following terms: Each one of us would decide on a movie genre and pick two movies of this genre, one we thought was good and one we enjoyed. We roughly defined good movies as movies who convey a deeper message, supported by an intriguing story, characters and cinematography, whereas enjoyable movies primarily should be relatable and have a high rewatch value.
It was important to us to only establish such simple guidelines, so each one of us could approach this topic on their own, resulting in the different styles our blog posts are written in. In the end, the aim of this comparison between good and enjoyable movies was to outline how much movie analysis can differentiate, depending on the focus of the analysis.
We’re looking forward to presenting our different approaches and answering any questions that might have arisen during our presentation. Until then, happy reading!
